A small thing, but I pointed out an open gas door to an older gentlemen at Wawa. 7/16/11
I decided to attempt to perform at least one good deed a day for 2011. The deeds can be simple and can be done for anyone, but preferably for strangers.

312 - Door for young Kid
I typically wouldn't count holding a door for a young able bodied kid as a good deed. However, if the older generation doesn't teach them manners who will. 7/16/11

313 - Brake Lamp
My mother in laws brake lamp burned out while on vacation. On my way back from the gym, I picked up a new lamp for her. A quick changeout and she is ready for some more beach travels. 7/8/11

314 - I Can't Reach That
At the gym, in Bethany, a cute older lady was having a problem reaching the handle. I adjusted it down so she could grasp it. 7/4/11

315 - Outdoor Lighting Damage
It has been so long since I had a good deed. Finally my dry spell has been broken. My neighbors outdoor light was damaged during a wind storm. Her umbrella snapped and took out the light. I couldn't do anything with the umbrella, but I was able to patch up the light. 6/6/11

316 - Electrical Wire Scratch Hazard
A unused electrical wire was sticking out from the bottom of a electric pole in the gym parking lot. It was in a position that someone might hit it with their car. It wasn't big enough to dent it but would scratch it pretty good. I bent the wire out of the way and enjoyed my work out. 4/27/11

317 - Lost Keys
Today a lady left her keys at the desk you fill out form in the credit union. I didn't see her leave them but by some clever deduction, I figures it out. Keys returned, lady happy and good deed accomplished. 4/26/11

318 - Cheesecakes for a Good Cause
Today a guy showed up at my door with a cheesecake in hand. He was selling these to help out a local organization that tries to help teach people about handling money. So, I bought one from the guy. 4/21/11

319 Go Ahead
I was standing in line at the post office. I technically would have been next, but I let an elderly lady go ahead of me. 4/13/11
Tuesday, April 5, 2011
320 - iLight
I was talking with my dental hygienist after my cleaning. We got on the subject of the iPhone 4. I told her about and showed her the flash capability of the new iPhone. 4/5/11

321 - Can I Put That Away For You
I am not sure who it is, but some goof ball keeps leaving the weights out at the gym. I decided to put some away, even though I wasn't using the equipment. 3/30/11
322 - Mail This, Please
I know good deeds for your spouse are not supposed to count. The thing is the well has been dry lately. So, I mailed a package for Heather since she would not be able to make it to the mail center. 3/30/11
Monday, March 21, 2011
323 - Lost Keys
I found a locker key and took it to the front desk at the gym. Nothing special here, just a quick and easy one. 3/21/11
Saturday, March 19, 2011
324 - Lemonade for Japan
I passed a lemonade stand on my way to the gym. They were selling a cup for $0.50 I really don't like lemonade but I figured I would stop and make a donation. I gave them a dollar and politely turned down the lemonade. When in was about to pull away they told me all the proceeds were going to Japan for tsunami relief. Looks like more than just me got a good deed today. 3/19/11

325 - Let There be Lights
I returned a scale RC truck to a buddy today. He needed some help with wiring the lights. I was able to get them all working for him. 3/12/11

326 - Lost Luggage
I am coming to the realiztion that all airports, airlines and a lot of their employees just plain suck. I think this comes down to the fact that there is no real person with authority to complain about issues. If you are lucky to find someone all they want is to shut you up and move you along. Forget raising your voice for effect, thy will get you locked up.
Ok, rant over now time to get to the good deed. This is one of those good deeds that might not matter to much. One of the "thought that counts" ones. When arriving at my gate I noticed a duffle bag laying on the tarmac. It was pretty obvious that it fell from a luggage cart. I found a US Air attendant and informed them. His response was a flippant "oh yeah, I am sure someone will get that". My guess is he is wrong. Especially when I saw the luggage cart swerve to avoid the bag. I will try again later, but my guess is someone will be without their tighty whities on this trip! 3/11/11

327 - Enjoy Your Vaca
I was asked what time it was by a girl in the line at Starbucks. We started talking and I discovered she had just lost her cell phone and was heading on a week long vacation to the Camens. She was pretty upset and bummed about losing get phone at such an inopportune time. I tried to bolster her a bit, but nothing much can get you out of a slump when something like this happens. To help her feel a little better I payed for her coffee. It was not a huge deal, but maybe it was enough to brighten her day. I hope she has a good vacation and enjoys her time spent with her fiancé. 3/11/11
328 - Help w/ your bags mam
I figured I would display some Southern hospitality while in TX. I was standing next to a lady with a giant suitcase on the rental car bus line. I helped her get her bag on and off the bus. 3/7/11

329 - How to do a Situp
I offered some advice on how to use the situp torture device at the gym. This is that infomercial device to help you with them. 3/4/11

330 - Don't Cry Over Spilled Soda
I was in Panera with Heather and John. We were getting toward the end of our meal, when I noticed a lady hurriedly leave the room. I looked where she came from and noticed another lady that had spilled soda in her lap. We had a bunch of extra napkins, so I walked them over to the lady. This not only helped out the lady but the planet. It gave purpose to the big wad of napkins we took for our meal. 3/2/11

331 - Take My Seat
While waiting for my haircut all the seats became filled up. There were a couple young kids that I could tell wanted to sit together. I got up and gave them my seat. 2/26/11

Just a little commentary
I didn't expect that it would be so hard to find good deeds. It is not due to me being unwilling to step out of my comfort zone, I just struggle to find them. I am realizing that so much of my day is spent alone (please don't be sad for me, I think I make great company). Never really thought about it much.
To start sleep doesn't really count, due to the whole not being awake thing. At work, I mostly sit at my desk and interact theough email and IM. Face to face metings are rare due to my contacts being spread over the world. I see a few people at the gym, but am generally concentrating on getting my workout over with. At home it is typically just my wife and I. I have pretty much been told that there are no such things as good deeds for her. Anything I do is considered part of my husbandly duties. And that puts me right back to the sleep phase, before my day starts over again. I suppose I need to make more of an asserted effort to find good deeds. This waiting for them to show up is not working out that well. 2/22/11

332 - Secret Staircase
A co-worker from the UK is over this week. I met her in the lobby to show here where my office is located. Instead of goig straight back I offered to give her a behind the scenses tour of the "secret" areas which will shorten up her travels. Our building is an absolute choped up maze that can swallow up people for what seems like forever! I was never into the show Lost, but it is kind of the same concept. So now she know how to get around a little easier. 2/22/11

333 - Rock Crawling
I am at Motorama today watching comps and running my scale Jeep in the expo. They allow people, mostly kids, to purchase a turn to drive a donated vehicle. They also get a chance at winning a new scale truck. There were three little kids which really wanted to try, even though they were a little too young to do it. So I helped them drive my Jeep around. We stayed on the concrete and I worked the throttle. I think they all really liked it and their parents were extremely appreciative. 2/19/11

334 - Garbage Man
Some a-hole left their Chick-Fila cup and sandwich bag in the parking lot of the gym. This bothered me, so I did the right thing. Picked it up and walked it 20 feet to the dumpster. 2/18/11
335 - At Your Service
At out work campus Starbucks. Yes, I have a Starbucks down one flight of stairs from my office. A lady ordered a fancy drink, you know the kind (frappa lappa tappa mochiata with reduced fat skim milk). I finished my order for tea and noticed her drink was ready and she was busy chatting in the corner of the cafe. So, I told the server I would take it to her in order to save either of them a trip. 2/18/11

336 -Yogi
Last week in our yoga class a guy came up and told me he was watching me for proper form. It was kind of weird, but flattering at the same time. I try to perform the moves correctly. It Judy never feels like I am. This week, I couldn't help but notice the guy. I saw that he was struggling with balance. After class I went up and explained the drishti point. It is when you gaze at one spot in full concentration. It really helps with balance. I hope next week it will help the guy hold the moves longer. 2/15/11

337 - Otherwise Known as "Crack"
Two if the cutest little girls asked me if I wanted some Girl Scout cookies when entering a Wawa. What could I do but say yes. The problem is you can never eat just one. Once you start it's like the cookie takes over. Thus, Heather have dubbed these, along with others, "crack" cookies. 2/12/11

338 - Bald Tires
I helped push a guy out if a snow packed parking lot. He drove his small, bald tired car, into a place he shouldn't have. Luckily the only issue was me getting a chunk of snow slung in my eye. 2/12/11
339 - Go Ahead
On my way to a morning of rock crawling I got me a good deed. I was approaching a 2 to 1 lane merge in the road. Instead of forcing the guy next to me behind, I braked. This allowed him to pass and got me my good deed. 2/12/11

340 - Dishes
I am probably going to catch all kinds of grief over this one but here it goes. Typically the arrangement is one cooks and the other cleans up. Tonight Heather wasn't feeling very good since she was so tired. I did my good deed by pulling double duty and sending her to bed. 2/7/11

341 - Comes Around...Goes Around
I stopped in for some vinyl at a local fabric store. There was an older lady approaching behind me so I held the door for her. I picked my vinyl but chose the wrong side of the counter and the associate didn't see me. The lady came after me and pointed to me when the associate approached her. Now, I am not doing this for straight up for reciprocity but more of a pay it forward. This time I just got lucky and received the "payment". 2/5/11

342 - What Can You Do for Brown
While exiting a print and ship store, I noticed a UPS guy struggling to get a large cart out to his truck. I simply stopped and held the Dior for him. 2/4/11
343 - Warm and Cozy
The temp on our outside thermometer stated 28, but it felt more like -28. Heather was too tired to swap the cars last night and get it into the garage. So I went out and warmed her CRV up, so that it would be warm and cozy. 2/4/11

344 - Multiply by 1
Without going into the gory details, I helped a friend with Excel. The solution to her problem was to multiply her data by 1. 2/3/11

345 - Ice Scraper
When I left work my car was covered with ice. After Cleaning my car, I offered my large scraper to a co-worker with a tiny one. 2/2/11

346 - Confrontation
I am not sure about this one as a good deed. Heather suggested it was and so I am putting it in the blog. We shop at Giant and use the points to save on gas. This usually puts us at the closest Giant gas station right at the end of the month. The line gets so long that they put up cones and force people to line up on one side, while exiting on the other. Normally there is an attendant, but with the cold and snow we were left on our own. About five cars, myself included, watched as a guy whipped in the exit and pulled right up to a pump. I decided to confront the guy and see if I could point out what he had done. It seems there are so many oblivious people lately. I hope that my confrontaion does some good to enlighten the guy. My guess, he will continue being the obvious jerk he is! Can't win them all. 1/29/11

347 - Candy Bar
I passed a candy sale box on my way to the vending machine. You know the ones parents get wrangled into by their kids. I don't eat candy bars, but I shoved in a dollar anyhow. 1/28/11
Tuesday, January 25, 2011
348 - Babies First
Upon arriving at the gym, I noticed a lady struggling to get the door open and her enormous baby stroller out. I did a very simple good deed and held the door for her. In the south this would be considered the norm, but in the north it is considered a good deed. 1/25/11
349 - Now Where Did I Put That Conference Room
While sitting in my cube this morning, I overheard someone down the hall askign about conference room locations. The layout of the offices in our building seems to be more of an evolving process than a planned one. This has ended up with conference rooms tucked way in the back of the building. I stuck my head out and helped the guy locate the right one. 1/25/11

350 - New Software
I belong to an RC club and we have a website that is used for the forum. The club is fairly new so we are still working out the bugs. One is the free software that is used for the forum. It works ok, but another version would serve our needs better. There was a plea for donations and a raffle started. I made my donation and bought a ticket, but that is not the good deed. I decided to give the club one of the scale roll cages I have been making and selling. I get about $50 for them. 1/23/11

351 - Wes' Pancake House
Heather has been putting in a lot of extra time on the weekends for her work project. All I wanted to do this morning for breakfast was cereal. Then I thought it would brighten Heathers day to make her some breakfast. Omelets were shot down but she jumped right on blueberry pancakes. The smile after she finished told me I did the right thing. After all breakfast is the most important meal of the day. What better way to enjoy breakfast than with the one you love! 1/23/11

352 - Parking Spot
Ok, so we are back to a snow related good deed. What can I say, it is winter in PA. After shoveling my driveway and sidewalk (help from Heather, thanks) I decided to shovel a spot where our neighbors daughter usually parks. It took about 15 extra minutes, but in the cold it felt like hours. 1/21/11
Thursday, January 20, 2011
353 - Can I Get a Spot
Ok, so today's good deed is not exactly earth shattering. I was able to help out someone with a spot at the gym. Not a big deal but something I typically do not do. 1/20/11
Tuesday, January 18, 2011
354 - Rain, Sleet or Snow
I noticed that the neighborhood mail box had not been shoveled. We share one of those large boxes with about 30 of our neighbors. On the way to get my mail I shoveled the sidewalk. I then cleaned out the area in front and a spot for the mailman to pull in. 1/17/11
355 - Snow Removal
This morning while shoveling my driveway I decided to go ahead and shovel both my neighbors sidewalks. Not a huge deal, but one less thing for them to worry with. 1/17/11
Sunday, January 16, 2011
356 - Coupons
After the gym I decided to drive to the mall and look for a new iPhone. I thought Heather might want something or want to go with me. When I called it turned out she did want something, but had a coupon to use. Even though it was out of my way I went back home to get the coupon. 1/16/11

357 - Roll Cage
For those that are not aware, I am into RC (remote control) rock crawlers. I have a Jeep, Land Rover and modified crawler with a VW Bug body. I belong to a local club and the president and I have become friends. I did a lot of work helping him put together his Jeep a month back. Today I gave him a brand new roll cage after the one he had was broken. I have a bunch of these cages, since I was selling them for a tidy profit. I hope to fix the broken one he swapped with me, but there is no guarantee. 1/15/10

358 - Doorman
Today I helped a guy get his luggage into the hotel. I am not sure why every grocery has automatic doors, but so many hotels do not. I mean everyone has luggage when coming to a hotel. 1/11/11

359 - Good Deed Denied
I have a conundrum on my hands. I am traveling and it snowed a good bit last night. When leaving the hotel, I noticed a guy trying to get out of his parking space. My intention was to help push him out of the parking space. I made it over but he would not let me help. Not really sure why, but I did take action toward my good deed. I pondered on if it counted or not. I guess since I am writing this down it is obvious that I decided it did. 1/10/11
UPDATE: I went in for coffee waiting for my truck to warm up. When I came back out the guy was still stuck. This time he let me help. Now it is an official good deed!

360 - Laptop Locked Up
I was talking to a guy about how a soda machine broke and took my money. He asked me If I was local because he needed help with his computer. He explained the situation and I told him how to restart his computer when it gets locked up. Who knows if it will work, but I hope it does. 1/9/11

361 - What...no freaking peanuts
On my flight to Chicago I overheard a man asking for some snacks. Since the overpriced tickets no longer cover snacks I started taking my own. I offered him a granola bar, which he gladly accepted. 1/5/11
362 - Traffic
Today was an easy one. A lady was jammed in traffic on an on ramp. Normally I would blow on by, but I decided to slow up and signal her into traffic. 1/5/11

363 - Sometimes Good Deeds Take Time!
Tonight after work I helped my neighbors boyfriend with a stereo installation in his "new" car. It turns out is is new to him. Actually it is a mid 90's Oldsmobile. Those things are horrible taking apart and getting back together. So, needless to say what I thought was going to be a quick install turned out to be a few hours work. Tonight I learned that doing good deeds is sometimes more than just a quick thing. Sometimes it requires a lot of your time. 1/3/11
364 - I need some Coffee
A coworker didn't have change for coffee this morning. I pulled out my pocket and handed him fifty cent and said enjoy. 1/3/11
365 - Newspaper
Nothing big to start off. I saw my neighbors newspaper out by the street. Not an uncommon sight, but I figured I would hand deliver it to their door. Next time I will try and think ahead and wear a coat though! 1/3/11
Starting on my journey
I can't say where exactly I was when I came up with the idea for this blog/project. What I do remember was coming out of a Barnes and Noble and seeing a guy in a back brace approaching the door. I was hungry and it was super cold. All I wanted to do was move on down to get myself a nice warm sandwich a few doors down the way. Instead, I turned around and got the door for the guy in the back brace. You can tell he was really appreciateive of my effort, regardless how small it was. That is when I decided to start this blog.
My goal is to accomplish 365 slightly un-selfish (will explain later) deeds during the year. I thought long and hard about my original concept of one a day. It was just too much pressure on me and I would be upset if I missed one. So I decided on 365 in a year, which allows me to double or triple up some days and go without others. My unofficial goal is to stay with one a day, but if not I won't feel disappointed.
Now I will explain about my term slightly un-selfish and what it means to me. You see no deed is done for truly un-selfish reasons. Well, atleast that is what I think. My reasons is to finish the blog/project and to hopefully spread some goodness to others, kind of like the concept in Pay it Forward. I also feel that this will make me feel better as a person. So, even though I will do as many random and sometimes anonymous good deeds for others. The real beneficiary will be myself. I feel I will grow as a person and feel much better about myself.
I hope this is somewhat interesting. Probably going to be a rocky start, but I am sure it will pick up as I get more practice.
